Urban planning
Geneva 2061
A walk through Geneva in 2061, imagined in Grooters Book 1, that asks at every stop how the real city could get there from today.
Post tenebras lux: after darkness, light. Geneva’s motto is the starting point for a project about the city’s future.
In the first Grooters book, Verity wakes up in a Dream World: the Geneva of 2061. The city is quiet, green and beautiful, and its people are radiant. Geneva 2061 follows her walk through the city, from the Plaine de Plainpalais market to the Parc des Bastions and beyond. At every stop it asks the same practical question: how do we get there from where we stand today?
How it’s organised
Each stop on the walk links to themes such as food, calm, construction, nature, mobility, beauty, leisure and relationships. Twenty-five themes are planned. Each one sets the vision of 2061 against the reality of today, and outlines the steps between them.
Where it comes from
The project brings together my studies in urban and regional planning and architecture, my childhood in Geneva, and the fiction of Grooters. Much of its content comes from Rethink Everything, a manuscript I wrote in 2023 that has not been published.
Where it stands
The site is live in English and French, and 3 of the 25 themes are written. The rest needs time and funding.
